Shambhala School of Buddhist Studies Overview: The Complete Course of Study The Shambhala School of Buddhist Studies is a four-cycle program of practice and study for anyone interested in learning about Shambhala Buddhism and meditation. Students do not need to be or become a Buddhist to take these courses, although that opportunity will be provided for those who wish to do so. The Shambhala School of Buddhist Studies offers a selection of courses that provide an overview of the Shambhala Buddhist path. The roots of the teachings are in the Kagyu and Nyingma lineages of Vajrayana Tibetan Buddhism and the ancient traditions of Shambhala. Classes include contemplation and meditation practice as well as study so that students can experience the teachings in a direct and personal manner.
The Curriculum:
There are a total of ten courses, which may be taken in any order, without prerequisites or the assumption of previous study. We encourage students with no previous meditation experience to take an introductory meditation workshop before enrolling in SSBS. For students wishing to go deeper into the teachings, the SSBS curriculum fulfills one of the requirements for attending [Shambhala Sutrayana Seminary]. Other prerequisites for Sutrayana Seminary include Shambhala Training Levels I-V and [dathün]. You may wish to explore various other meditation practice intensives available at city centers and land centers.
Each SSBS course includes five Monday night classes from 7pm to 9pm and one Saturday intensive from 9am to 5pm. You may choose from two courses offered during each session. Each course costs $175 ($125 for center members) + required texts.
