Shambhala Day - Year of the Water Snake

Mon February 11th: 9:00 AM - 9:00 PM

Shambhala Day marks the beginning of a New Year, and represents one of our most important traditions. As is customary, Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche will address the worldwide Shambhala community via an online address in the morning. In the afternoon we are encouraged to gather with friends and fellow warriors to celebrate the New Year with neighborhood brunches and conversation. In the evening, everyone is invited back to the Shambhala Center to practice and feast together with the Sadhana of Mahamudra.

Saturday February 16, 10:00 am    New Year’s Lhasang at Chautauqua Park

Shambhala Day is based on the traditional Tibetan New Year celebration of Losar. The date changes every year, as it is calculated astrologically according to the Tibetan lunar calendar.

The New Year is a time for us to express the wealth and richness of our spiritual and cultural heritage through feasting, conviviality, elegance, pomp and ceremony. This is also the time when members of the Shambhala community are encouraged to make a financial donation to Shambhala International in order to help support the activities of Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche and our worldwide mandala.
