In Shambhala Training Level One the ancient wisdom of Shambhala comes alive in our daily existence. This first level presents the view that the world is sacred and basic goodness is our birthright. This is basic human wisdom that does not belong to any one culture or religious tradition, though it can be found in many cultures throughout history. All humans can discover this goodness of human life and radiate that goodness into the world for the peace and sanity of others.
Shambhala Training is a path to develop the dignity of being human. This path is based on the practice of meditation as a means to develop fearlessness, confidence, openness, and gentleness toward ourselves and toward our world, with an emphasis to apply the wisdom of meditation to our everyday lives. .
The first in a series of trainings, Level One includes instruction on meditation and sessions of sitting meditation. There are also talks by the Sakyong and Acharya Simmer-Brown. During the weekend there will be opportunities to discuss your experience in small meetings with teachers.
These workshops are recommended for new and experienced meditators.
The program schedule is Friday from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm, Saturday on 9:00 am to 6:30 pm, and Sunday from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm.
PLEASE BE PREPARED TO STAY UNTIL 7PM on Saturday. We are very fortunate to have the Sakyong teach at this level, and with so many people this afternoon session might well go later than scheduled.
Participants are warmly invited to a light buffet breakfast offered on both Saturday and Sunday mornings at 8:30am.

The course MEDITATION in Everyday Life is recommended either before or after Level One.
The first year of the Way of Shambhala is composed of Shambhala Training Levels I-V, each followed by a five-week course. The series provides a strong foundation in mindfulness-awareness meditation and is designed to develop courage and sanity in these troubled times of uncertainty. MEDITATION in Everyday Life is the first of the five courses.
Over the course of a year, the Way of Shambhala introduces the entire Shambhala path. This series offers a glimpse of the Shambhala vision of enlightened society by emphasizing the ways in which meditation can impact our daily lives, and from there, how the sanity of meditation can expand to impact our community and our whole society.
The Way of Shambhala curriculum was designed by Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche based on the Shambhala Teachings of his father, Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche. The Shambhala Path emphasizes the development of genuineness, confidence, good humor, and personal human dignity.
The entire Way of Shambhala series is directed by thoroughly trained and experienced Shambhala teachers.
Shambhala weekends are structured to offer an in-depth meditation retreat. Attendance is required for the Friday night talk and for each session of the program. Participants can not register on Saturday morning if they have not attended Friday evening.
