Meditation

What is Sitting Meditation?

Mindfulness practice, the art of simply connecting with ourselves and our world, is at the heart of the Shambhala Buddhist Community. It is through sitting meditation and various meditative disciplines, that our natural brilliance and wakefulness manifest.

The Historical Tradition

The practice of mindfulness develops awareness, and awareness in turn reveals a world of brilliant insight. The roots of the sitting meditation practice we do at the Boulder Shambhala Center, reaches back over 2500 years to the technique, known as Shamatha-Vipassana or Mindfulness- Awareness, Shakyamuni Buddha taught to his students.

Why Meditate?

By practicing sitting meditation, we train our minds to dwell in the present moment. We may discover that each and every one of us has the capacity to cultivate an open, calmer mind that is clear, awake and compassionate. We invite you to learn how to sit and partake in the richness of these traditions. We offer meditation instruction, free of charge.
